Aggie M.E.N. are recruiting A&T Alumni to Mentor Male First-Year College Students
The Aggie M.E.N. (Male Empowerment Network) program is designed to pair minority male freshmen with mentors to be a resource on which to lean, someone that can help with the transition from high school to college, or someone to get a good word of wisdom when necessary.
Aggie M.E.N. believe that the more connected the freshmen are with the campus, the community, and the village, the more likely that freshmen will be a sophomore in good academic standing. Aggie M.E.N. has connected 1,000 freshmen to mentors on campus over the last two years. And, over those last two years, Aggie M.E.N. has been able to boast high persistence and retention rates in our cohorts. This program, while new, is proving to have a lot of potential. Additionally, in these challenging times, making sure that these young, minority men see positive and encouraging representations of themselves is vitally important.
Due to the current pandemic, Aggie M.E.N. are moving the previously residential program, to the digital realm. So what does mentoring look like virtually?
- If mentorship is virtual, you can be a mentor to a freshmen male Aggie from your living room, your car, your time zone. Contact can be an email, a text, or even a Zoom call.
- If mentorship is virtual, you can help a freshmen male Aggie understand what Aggie Pride is all about. You can plug someone into village network.
- If mentorship is virtual, you can create a legacy for yourself at A&T by pouring into the mind and heart of a young Black man.
