2025 Alumni Achievement Awards

The N.C. A&T Office of Alumni Relations is pleased to announce that nominations for the Alumni Awards are now open. The nominations are for the Howard C. Barnhill Distinguished Service Award, Julia S. Brooks Achievement Award, and the Velma Speight Young Alumni Award.
The nomination period for the 2025 awards is from July 1 – August 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Award nominees will be notified by September 5, 2025.
Award recipients will be formally recognized during Fall Convocation on Thursday, October 9, at 10 a.m. in Harrison Auditorium, as part of the 99th celebration of The Greatest Homecoming on Earth.
Awards Criteria
Howard C. Barnhill Distinguished Service Award
- Must be an alumni of North Carolina A&T State University
- Must demonstrate active involvement with the University and/or the Office of Alumni Relations. This may include serving on a committee, participating in a local alumni chapter, acting as an Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter, and/or volunteering for University-sponsored events such as Homecoming or Alumni Reunion Weekend.
- Must have rendered outstanding service to North Carolina A&T State University, the Office of Alumni Relations, and/or a local alumni chapter.
- Must submit two (2) letters of recommendation that speak to the nominee’s character, service, and commitment to the University and the broader community.
- Must have contributed to the University’s Annual Giving Campaign for at least two consecutive years.
- Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the same award.
Julia S. Brooks Achievement Award
- Must be alumni of North Carolina A&T State University.
- Must demonstrate active engagement with the University and/or the Office of Alumni Relations. This may include serving on a committee, participating in a local alumni chapter, acting as an Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter, or volunteering at university events such as Homecoming or Alumni Reunion Weekend.
- Must submit two (2) letters of recommendation that highlight the nominee’s character, service, and commitment to the University and community.
- Must have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their profession, community, or public service.
- Must have held multiple leadership roles across various levels within their professional field, community involvement, or public service.
- Must have contributed to the University’s Annual Giving Campaign for at least two consecutive years.
- Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the same award again.
Dr. Velma Speight Young Alumni Award
- Must be an alumni of North Carolina A&T State University
- Must be 40 years of age or younger.
- Must be actively engaged with the programs and services of the University and/or the Office of Alumni Relations. This may include serving on a committee, participating in a local alumni chapter, serving as an Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter, and/or volunteering at University-sponsored events such as Homecoming or Alumni Reunion Weekend.
- Must provide two (2) letters of recommendation that reflect the nominee’s character, service, and commitment to the University and broader community.
- Must have contributed to the University’s Annual Giving Campaign and/or maintained financial membership in an alumni chapter for a minimum of two consecutive years.
- Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the same award.
