    N.C. A&T Announces 2021 National Alumni Scholars Cohort

    North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has announced its newest cohort of National Alumni Scholarship recipients, who exemplify excellence in their academics and Aggie Pride among members of the class of 2025.  The North Carolina A&T National Alumni Scholarship provides the opportunity annually for incoming freshmen to receive full financial assistance that includes tuition, room and board, and books through the National Alumni Scholarship Program.     N.C. A&T Alumnus Receives $100,000 from Google for Startups Black Founders Fund

    In August 2021, Donald Boone ‘08 took a leap of faith when he left his full-time position at Amazon to work as a full-time entrepreneur in his company, BoxedUp, Inc. Without any inkling of knowing, he received a call a week later from Google for Startups that his company was selected to receive $100,000 in funding, $100,000 in Google Ad Credits and $100,000 in Google Cloud Credits through the Black Founders Fund.  Launched in 2019, BoxedUp, Inc. is the first on-demand rental marketplace that allows equipment owners to ship their products to customers, instead of relying on in-person transactions.     N.C. A&T to Host Community and Economic Engagement Summit

    Homecoming 2021 will present a new opportunity to put a purpose before the party begins. On Wednesday, October 27, the Office of Community Engagement will host the university’s first Community and Economic Engagement Summit. The day will be filled with dynamic keynote speakers, working sessions centered on entrepreneurship, and several breakout panel discussions. This year’s summit, with a theme of “Pathways to Economic Recovery,” will focus on strategies that inform participants about the connectivity between building personal wealth and building healthier sustainable communities.     Bluford Archives: The Road to the Gold – A History of Aggies in the Olympics.

    On August 7, 2021, Trevor Stewart and Randolph Ross Jr. made history as the first Olympic Gold and Bronze medalists from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University when they led the United States in the men’s 4×400-meter relay. Their victory is not only a tremendous source of Aggie Pride but is also reminiscent of the great heritage of African-American track and fielders in the Olympics.     Carrie Davis ’72/73 has always been intrigued with the power of giving back to others. Her life has been a reflection of being open to the needs of her community and making a difference.     Ulysses J. Cozart, Jr. ‘77 has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to being a leader in his community and to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. On Aug. 17, 2021, he received the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award from Boys Scout of America’s Old North State Council.     Happy 100th Birthday, Mrs. Marian T. Logan ’57

    Mrs. Marian T. Logan was born on July 7, 1921, and was raised in Roseland, Virginia, a rural community of Nelson County. She is one of eight siblings whose parents were deacons in the church, and they instilled core values of education, work ethic, and family in their children. Marian graduated 11th grade from Oak Hill School and then migrated to Brooklyn, NY to live with extended family where she completed 12th grade from Girls High School. Working as a stenographer in Brooklyn and later serving in the office pool in the Army ODB in Newark, NJ during WWII enabled her to strengthen and prepare herself for the civilian workplace.…

    Bluford Library Archives: The Commencement Exercises of 1921

    For 123 years, commencement has been the spring highlight for Aggie graduates, their families, and the community. In saluting the class of 1921, we can see how special commencement had already become 100 years ago. Then as now, faculty and staff were busy preparing for the 23rd annual commencement of the “Negro Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina.” Before the first Aggie homecomings took place, alumni reunions were held at commencement. Professor D. K. Cherry, chair of the entertainment committee, and Professor J. E. Reid worked to assist alumni in securing accommodation and entertainment in Greensboro.  The ceremonies were carried out as planned beginning Sunday, May 22, 1921. That…
