Bluford Library Archives – Lonnie P. Byarm, Sr. – A&T’s First Homecoming Championship Coach

Today it is hard to imagine a time when the Blue and Gold Aggie Football team weren’t known as the fierce “Bulldogs.” Or a time when there weren’t spectacular Homecoming games that were the talk of the Triad, or the nation. Up until a century ago, we weren’t in a major sports conference. Yet by 1930, the Aggies were a championship team with headline-making Homecoming games. How did this happen in just a few years?  All of those changes took place during the coaching tenure of Lonnie P. Byarm Sr. ‘1911. One of Aggieland’s greatest coaches, Byarm (1889-1955) instructed students in basketball, football, and baseball while also teaching as a…

Creating A Legacy of Giving Through the Aggie Charitable Gift Fund

Family is at the heart of everything proud Aggies – like Chaz and Donminique Dawson – do. And for them, family is forever.  Family motivated them to succeed as students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and family inspired them to give back to their alma mater through the Aggie Charitable Gift Fund.  The Dawsons, with support from family and friends, established the Aggie Charitable Gift Fund, a donor-advised fund (DAF) at N.C. A&T.  “A&T is all about family. We were thankful to have the network and support to help us in our endeavors. When we go back to A&T and see the growth of the university, it…

My Dear Aggies and Friends, My heart is still full and I want to personally thank each of you who shared and celebrated with me during the naming dedication of Speight Hall. Stanford Brothers Endowment Established to Support North Carolina A&T Students

In the late 1950s and 60s, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University athletics were at an all-time high of winning championships for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).  It was a very familiar euphoric feeling that Aggies feel today with the university’s current athletic success. For the Stanford brothers, Pollard ‘61, Lorenzo ‘61 and Carl ’63, they were a powerful dynamic to Aggie football, being the first three siblings to play a collegiate sport at the same time in the CIAA in 1960.  As of March 2022, the Stanford Brothers Endowment was established to support students facing financial hardship at North Carolina A&T. The endowment gift was made by…
