Congratulations to the Goldsboro/Wayne Alumni Chapter for Celebrating 60 Years of Service
Goldsboro/Wayne Alumni Chapter of North Carolina A&T State University was chartered on January 16, 1964, and the chapter celebrated its 60th anniversary on January 16, 2024. The event theme was “Aggies Celebrating a Diamond Life: A Blue Carpet Affair.” This event supported the chapter’s scholarship program for students interested in attending N.C. A&T.
During the event, the chapter provided a platform for several alumni to share their life experiences These messages were pre-recorded and highlighted their time at North Carolina A&T, spanning from the 1950s to the most recent graduate of 2023 and included a special greeting from Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations, Crystal W. Boyce ’07 & ’15.
Alvin Ward ’95 and ‘22 is the 19th president of the alumni chapter and Kariana Taylor ‘16 is the vice president and hosted the event as the mistress of ceremony.
The chapter paid tribute to the esteemed John Henry Wooten, Sr., ’48. He was a dedicated chapter member, served as the former Mideast regional director, and held the position of alumni national president in 1991 and 1993.
Other notable guests in attendance were Don Davis, a member of Congress of the First District, Larry Bell, a retired member of the North Carolina General Assembly and superintendent, and keynote speakers, Rasheda Jones ‘04, Ph.D., and Bishop A. Blow ‘92.
In the future, the chapter plans to continue to participate in local high school homecoming football game tailgating to showcase A&T and to educate students about college life and scholarships. In addition, the chapter hosts an annual new student send-off during the summer and participates in several community service projects in the area.
